Laugh till the end #AtoZChallenge

Source
Everyone smiles at me. Some even laugh. They have a reason to laugh.

I give them the reason. No wait! I am the reason.

It could also be because on some days, I laugh with them too.

So then what happens at other times? When I don't feel like laughing.

When all I want to do is curl up in my tent, on my bed and cry my heart out.

To forget my past. To feel strong again.

But I can’t do that. I am the “joker”. If I don't make people laugh, who will ?

The show must go on.

  1. If this is about clowns, some people are actually scared of clowns! Regardless though, it can be a challenge to always be upbeat when sometimes a good cry is warranted. <3

    1. Yes Elly. I have found it hard personally to be myself when there is a tornado ripping me apart. So can't imagine how hard it must be for the performers in the circus especially clowns. :(

  2. Somehow I have always thought of clowns as hiding some big sad secrets within. What a paradoxical life some of them must lead. You have captured this sentiment well in just a few words!

    1. Thanks Beloo. Yes, if we just peek inside the minds of clowns I am sure we will find enormous pain. :(

  4. The sorrow behind a joker's smile left me feeling sad. Lovely post.

  5. We all laugh at the jokers but what we fail to realize is that they too must be going through hardships.

    1. Yes Swati. Sometimes we just need to look at others in a more compassionate way to realize that everyone has struggles to battle in life.

    1. Yes Sheethal. Some hide their pain to make others forget their pain even if it is for a few minutes. I wish we could have helped the clowns in a similar way.

  9. Aah! The sad life of a Joker. I remember reading a story on the life of a Joker and it was on similar lines. Nobody ever took him seriously, nobody ever comforted him and he had to make people laugh even when his heart was crying! :(

    1. Even reading a story about clowns makes me sad. It's too bad as a kid we never realize the amount of pain they undergo to make hundreds laugh.

    1. Yes Eli, truly said ! In the end it's not who we are, it's who we hide that completes us.

  11. The life of a clown is so hard because he has to make others laugh even when his heart cries from within.

    1. Yes Prasanna. It is a hard life indeed. And to think of it, sometimes our own problems seem small in front of this hardship.

  12. I've always wondered that about even stand-up comedians...must be hard to have to laugh for others.

    1. Yes Sanch, any kind of performing arts where in the person has to indulge his/her mind completely for a flawless performance to entertain the masses is definitely a hardship.

  13. That clown picture is creepy! And I'm not normally scared of clowns. But what you wrote was sad. I feel sorry for him/her. I don't think I'll be able to look at a clown in the same way because I'd be wondering if they are really happy or if they are depressed, lonely...sad.

    1. Yup Chrys. I personally gave it a thought before using that pic for the post. But I guess that's how they are, right? Concealing their actual self as a job. As a kid obviously I never saw or knew their hardships. But now, I see them in a altogether different light.

  14. I'm a novelist so it takes me chapters to say anything significant--I admire the more poetic souls who can use so few words to say so much. I've enjoyed stopping by your site today for A to Z :)

    1. Ha ha ! Same here. :) I was skeptical to use the pic and then finally decided that my readers need to feel the same fear that I feel on seeing this clown :D On a more serious note, I thought it blended well with the post. :)
