Acceptance #AtoZChallenge

I was born like everyone else,
Having luscious hair and eyes so coy.
It was a day just like any other,
But with no celebrations or joy.

This world was different to me,
After all, I was a special kind.
Others didn't care & ignored me always,
Actions that never yielded meaning in my mind.

Living on the streets was only easy,
With no debts or assets to hold.
No amount of riches lure us,
Not money, not clothes and definitely not gold.

All I want is a little love,
Would acceptance be too much to ask?
Being different wasn't my choice,
If only it was something I could mask.

As an individual I want to be accepted. By my family. By my friends. By everyone.

Today we find countless unfortunate people living on the streets, in poor shelters in every country. Some due to poverty, some due to sickness, some due to choice. While they may approach us asking for food or money, which is a momentary need, what they really desire is a life-long requirement. To feel accepted, to feel loved, to be treated normally. If only we could learn to acknowledge them the way we are today.

  2. This is the second post I read today on acceptance. And yes, every human being desires to be accepted and to be loved. True love is when you accept someone will all their faults. Great start to the challenge.

    1. Yeah even I noticed that "Acceptance" is quite the favorite pick for 'A'. :) And I was surprised to find the coincidence having drafted my post weeks ago :D

But it is the most fundamental right of every human and we need to address it at all levels. Thanks for visiting :)

  5. This is a beautiful poem. I've had to go through a long period trying to accept that I'm losing my vision.
Feeling accepted and accepting loss are two strands of acceptance that interconnect. Lovely writing.

  9. Acceptance seems tone popular...I wrote on that topic for my letter A last year. 😊
Beautifully penned EM. It's true that we need to accept people from all walks of life and it discriminate. Everyone has their own personal story and suffering

    1. Now that you tell me Sanch, I remember reading it on your blog last year ;) And I also came across another blogger who chose "Acceptance" as well. Even though I had my post drafted weeks ago :D I guess it's a popular pick. Thanks for your thoughts.

  12. A nice one, EM. It's so hard to accept people and things for who/what they are and fight the urge to rearrange it/ them to suit who you want them to be. One of the toughest lessons of life and I am still struggling.
